  • Congratulations to the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL) on its 80 year history of supporting the interests of women lawyers.  Hughes Consultants is proud to support the Mid-Year Meeting, a day long event for women in business on November 18th at Alston & Bird.  The event will focus on negotiating, diversity, flexibility and other topics important to women in business.
  • Nicole Andres joined more than 900 lawyers in the 2008 Run for Justice 5K to raise money for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.  The event raised $20,000 for the organization.
  • Melba Hughes joined thousands of men and women to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund by walking in the 2008 Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day.  Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a series of three day, 60-mile walks that raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs.
  • Melba Hughes has been asked to return to Harvard Law School as a speaker for the 2008 Fall Market Series Program.
  • Shelly Walters has joined Rogers & Hardin as Executive Director.  The Executive Director position is the senior non-lawyer position in the firm.  Congratulations to Shelly and Rogers & Hardin.

            Three minority-owned legal recruiting firms have been tapped by the California Minority Counsel Program to provide a more diverse pool of job candidates to law firms and corporations. 
            The California Minority Counsel Program was launched in 1989 and has nearly 300 members, including the Clorox Co., Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment America.
      As part of its Diversity Recruiting Initiative, which aims to maximize job prospects for attorneys of color, the program selected the Oakland-based Grisham Group, Hughes Consultants in Atlanta and Chicago's Winston & Green.
           The three recruiting firms will be introduced at the California Minority Counsel Program's 17th annual Business Development Conference, scheduled for Sept. 13-14 at San Francisco's Hotel Nikko.

  •  hughes CONSULTANTS places new General Counsel Congratulations to Mark Pollack, the new general counsel of Arthur Andersen. "Pollack comes to his new job with expertise that's somewhat unusual for a GC. He worked for six years as a federal prosecutor in Illinois before joining Jenner, where he defended clients in securities class actions and professional liability cases. He also headed the firm's white-collar criminal defense practice. So why did Pollack take what effectively is a dead-end assignment? He says the move wasn't all that risky,given that he knows he can go back to Jenner at any time.  Plus, he says, "the more I learned [about the job], the more I was intrigued."    Corporate Counsel, September 2003

  • Del Monte Foods hires 2 in San Francisco.   hughes CONSULTANTS LLC is proud to have sucessfully completed two placements for our new client Del Monte Foods.Rhonda Bethea and Isobel Jones both joined Del Monte's legal department this month.
  •  NCDS Hires 2 from hughes CONSULTANTS LLC. Sean Mikula and Rebecca Kozycki  have begun work as Development Directors for National Community Development Services (NCDS). In this new role, they will plan, organize,and direct campaigns to capitalize community economic development programs nationally.  Congratulations to Sean and Rebecca!
  • Emory University Hires Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs! Carolyn Wright, formerly of King & Spalding, has joined Emory University School of Law as the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs.  Congratulations Carolyn!           
  •  Southern Poverty Law Center hires Grace Graham. Grace has started her new position as Staff Attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center.  Grace is a graduate of Boston College Law School and formerly practiced with Howrey Simon Arnold & White in Washington, DC.  As a member of Southern Poverty Law Centers legal staff, Grace will be able to develop and litigate significant civil rights cases.  Congratulations Grace!
